Peaks of mt. Olympus

Summit Day: Climb the High Peaks of Mount Olympus

Today, we aim for the towering peaks of Mount Olympus, reaching elevations above 2,900 meters. Starting from the mountain refuge at dawn, the hike begins in alpine terrain. The sunrise over the Aegean Sea creates an unforgettable backdrop as we ascend along the ridge.

We first reach Skala, a key summit point on the route. From here, the group can split based on experience and preference:

  • Option 1: Skolio Peak (2,911m)
An easier traverse leads to Skolio, the second-highest peak. The hike includes a scenic loop below the Agios Antonios peak before returning to the refuge. This route takes about 2.5 hours from the refuge and offers breathtaking summit views.

  • Option 2: Mitikas Peak (2,918m)
For experienced hikers, the challenge continues to Mitikas, the highest peak of Olympus. From Skala, the route descends a small couloir before a rocky, steep traverse under the main summit. The final climb involves exposed sections requiring ropes, harnesses, and helmets, all guided safely by our expert team. This demanding scramble takes about 3.5 hours from the refuge. Due to exposed terrain and difficulty, good physical condition and hiking experience are essential.

Important: The ability to climb these peaks depends on snow conditions. High passes may remain covered in frozen snow until early June, making the ascent dangerous and sometimes impossible.

After the summit climb, we return the same way to the refuge for a well-deserved lunch. Later, we descend to Prionia, where the bus awaits to take us to Litochoro for overnight accommodation.
