Tour highlights

Hike the Vradeto steps

Starting from Tsepelovo village, the trail leads to the Vradeto Plains and the iconic Vradeto Steps, an inspiring stone pathway with breathtaking mountain views.

 

Walk the Vikos gorge

We spend the night in Kapesovo, a picturesque village steeped in history and traditional charm. As we continue, the trail guides us along ancient Merchants’ Paths, across historic stone bridges, and deep into the wilderness area of the Vikos Gorge, one of the deepest gorges in the world.

 

The alpine lake Drakolimni

In the following days, we ascend to the heights of Timfi Mountain, making our way to the serene Drakolimni Alpine Lake, a hidden gem surrounded by towering peaks. An overnight stay at the Astraka Refuge allows us to experience the tranquility of this remote alpine area.

 

The picturesque Tsepelovo village

Finally, our journey circles back to Tsepelovo, concluding in the beautiful village square — a perfect ending to an unforgettable hiking adventure in Zagori and the Pindus Mountains.

Day 1

Arrival - meet the guide in Tsepelovo village.

Meeting at Tsepelovo village. We rest in the traditional guesthouse and walk around the village.

Vradeto steps and Beloi

From Tsepelovo (1,050m), we begin hiking uphill toward Vradeto (1,250m), the highest village in Zagori.
Along the way, the landscape gradually opens up and the views become wider.

From Vradeto, we follow a scenic trail to the Beloi Viewpoint (1,350m).
Here, we enjoy panoramic views over the Vikos Gorge and the hiking routes ahead.

Afterwards, we return to Vradeto to continue the journey.
Next, the trail descends toward Kapesovo village.

We hike down via the famous Vradeto Steps, a stunning stone path.
This historic trail was built in the 16th century along the slopes of the Vikos Gorge.

Bridges of Zagori

From the main square of Kapesovo, we begin walking downhill.
The trail leads through a beautiful oak forest.

Soon, we reach the historic village of Kipi, once the capital of Zagori.
Kipi is also known as the “village of bridges.”

Here, we explore four traditional stone bridges on a short walking tour.
Each bridge reflects the region’s rich history.

Afterwards, we continue hiking toward Vitsa.
The route follows the historic Vitsa Steps, built over 200 years ago.

Finally, we arrive in Vitsa village.
We spend the night in this charming and traditional Zagori settlement.

The Vikos gorge hike

We begin the day by crossing the Vikos Gorge, one of the deepest canyons in the world.
First, a short transfer brings us to Monodendri (2 km).

From Monodendri, we start hiking downhill.
The trail leads toward the river flowing through the gorge.

Next, we walk alongside the stream.
We move deeper into the heart of Vikos–Aoos National Park.

This wild area is home to rare wildlife.
Here, birds of prey, bears, and wild boars roam freely.

Finally, the hike ends with a 40-minute ascent.
We reach the picturesque village of Vikos, where we spend the night.

The springs of Voidomatis

We follow an old uphill path toward Papingo Village.
Along the way, we cross several beautiful ravines.

Meanwhile, high above the trail, the impressive Towers of Papingo rise sharply.
These dramatic rock formations dominate the landscape.

Finally, we arrive in Mikro Papingo.
Here, we enjoy dinner and an overnight stay in a local hotel.

Drakolimni alpine lake

We hike from Papingo toward the high plateaus of Mount Timfi.
Our goal is Drakolimni Alpine Lake (2,050m).

The journey begins in Mikro Papingo, one of the prettiest villages in Zagori.
Soon, the trail leads through calm and open mountain landscapes.

Along the way, we pass several natural water springs.
Therefore, carrying large amounts of water is not necessary.

Next, we reach the Astraka Mountain Refuge.
Here, we take a short and well-deserved break.

Afterwards, we continue hiking for another 1.5 hours.
We then arrive at Drakolimni, with spectacular views of the Pindos Mountain Range.

Finally, we return to the Astraka Refuge.
We spend the night surrounded by alpine scenery.

From Astraka to Tsepelovo

Today is a long but rewarding day as we cross the Timfi Mountain Range.
We start by hiking down from the Astraka Refuge to the expansive mountain plains.

Beneath the impressive Astraka cliffs, we continue toward Loutsa Robozi, a small water reservoir.
This traditional spot is used by shepherds and their animals in summer.

Next, the trail leads to the edge of Megas Lakos, an impressive canyon stretching all the way to Vikos.
After crossing a natural spring, we head toward the village of Tsepelovo, our final hiking destination.

In Tsepelovo, we relax in the village square.
We also visit a local shop to taste honey and other bee products and chat with the beekeeper.

Finally, we drive to Elati for an overnight stay.
