Vikos Gorge via Voidomatis springs, is a moderately difficult hike, we cross the heart of Vikos – Aoos National park, and continue partly through the Vikos gorge where the hiker can dive into the crystal waters of the Voidomatis springs, where the river is born!
The path finishes at Vikos village, and the way up brings astonishing views!

Starting our day in the most iconic village of Papigo, we meet the trail that takes us into the heart of Vikos Gorge. As we walk the views start to be breathtaking and we can feel the size of the cliffs and rock formations!
Vikos was declared a Geo park under UNESCO, as the geological history of the rock formations goes as far as 200.000.000 years ago, rising from the ancient ocean of Thetis. This spectacular landscape has been forming across the span of millennia.
Following the trail downhill we reach the deepest point of the gorge, where the river Voidomatis is born! "The mother of water" is the meaning of the river's name, which comes out of the mountains forming a river in the dry riverbed of Vikos.
Our hike continues as we also visit the little monastery of Panagia, a magical spot for relaxing, and for the bravest, a swim in the ice cold river is quite the experience!
The walk continues going uphill towards Vikos village on a very old stone built trail, where the majestic views of the gorge will compel you many times to stop for a photo!
As we finish the hike at Vikos view point, we look out at the gorge where we can see and admire most of our hike up to that point.
