The locals have discovered a way to move about in deep snow with relative comfort by wearing what we know today as the snowshoes.
This tour is made for winter hikers who want to experience the other side of Greece, the winter side!

The Pindos snowshoe traverse takes place in the north part of Pindos.
We hike through the big Balkan pine forests, over high alpine meadows, to beautiful valleys, ending each day in a quiet isolated village.
Starting from the big town of Metsovo, we hike the amazing alpine mountain of Lakmos, and then hike from the lake of Aoos springs over to Flegga peaks.
Our journey takes us through the Valia Calda valley, to Vovousa, and then we climb the high mountain of Vasilitsa, towards Samarina one of the highest villages of Greece.
Right over Samarina, we have Smolikas, the highest peak of the Pindos range and Greece's highest.
It is a unique experience and definitely worth a visit to this "exotic" winter paradise, hidden between the Pindos mountains!

Arrival
Depending on our arrival time we check in and walk around the town of Metsovo.
Lakmos mountain
This is a beautiful range that lies right over the town of Metsovo. Our climb starts in Anthochori village, about 15 minutes drive from Metsovo. Impressive alpine meadows and views all the way to the Ionian sea!
At the end of this hike we rest and eat at a local restaurant and then drive back to Metsovo.
Over the Aoos lake
Short transfer to the lake of Aoos, and we start the hike into the North Pindos National Park! The mountains of Mavrovouni and Flegga peak are our goals for the day. Unique views and forests, with trees that look like statues! Upon descending to the main road, a transfer is awaits us to take us to our next stop, Vovousa village. We stay overnight and have dinner.
The Avgo peak
Short transfer to starting point and hike to the peak Avgo, (15mins) and cross to the nomadic village of Perivoli, dinner and overnight stay.
Vasilitsa crossing
Short transfer to Abdela (15mins) where we start the exiting cross over Vasilitsa mountain. We finish at the ski area where we have dinner and stay overnight at the mountain lodge by the slopes at 1850m!
Gomara peak
Crossing to Samarina, over Gomara peak. We get the chance to walk through the amazing “Robola” pine trees, or the Balkan pine, huge trees that grow in high altitudes, endemic to the south of the Balkans, and Pindos mountains. After the peak we see the mountain massif of Smolikas (highest Pindos peak 2631m). We walk to Samarina a nomadic village at 1450m. Dinner and overnight stay.
Up to Smolikas mountain
Hike to the peaks of Mt. Smolikas, highest of Pindos mountains. We start directly from the village, through thick forest to the alpine terrain of Mt. Smolikas, our goal is the peaks of Skala or Piramida (2450m), our highest point of the tour! Dinner and overnight stay in Samarina.
